How Northwind Air cut overtime 22% in its first quarter

Northwind Air ran dispatch from a whiteboard and two phones. In its first winter on CrewControl, overtime fell by a fifth and dispatchers stopped working Saturdays.

The whiteboard problem

Every morning, two dispatchers rebuilt the day on a whiteboard, then phoned 64 technicians one by one. When a no-heat call came in at 10 a.m., they started the phone calls again.

What changed

Northwind moved its job types, skills and service area into CrewControl in two weeks. Dispatchers now plan tomorrow in about 11 minutes, and urgent calls are placed straight onto the board, where CrewControl shows who can get there without making other customers late.

The result

Overtime fell 22% in the first quarter, mostly because techs stopped crossing the city twice a day. Maintenance agreements are scheduled in the quiet weeks, and renewals rose as a result.

“We used to plan the day by phone. Now the techs have it on their phones before they leave the yard.”
